It's National Licorice Day❗

Today the world celebrates Licorice and you should to! Not just because its a tasty treat at the movies, but for "its history, health benefits, and distinction around the world."

According to nationaldaycalendar.com, "you won't be limited when it comes to celebrating licorice, either. There are plenty of licorice candies, licorice ropes, jelly beans, jewels, and many others to enjoy! Of course, the designation has evolved as people savor all types and flavors of licorice to celebrate the day.

If you're a fan of black licorice and have noticed it makes your tummy feel better, there is a reason. Licorice root can soothe a stomach bothered by heartburn or gastritis. The glycyrrhizic acid in licorice contains immune-boosting and anti-inflammatory properties that can help to restore balance to the stomach lining. That is definitely something worth celebrating! Grab a few black jelly beans from the candy jar for this holiday!"

In honor of today, here's a few ways you can pay homage:

📍Enjoy some licorice today.

INGREDIENTS

1 2/3 cups (400 mL) devil's food cake mix

1/2 cup water

1 egg

3/4 cup vanilla frosting

24 vanilla wafer cookies

24 candy-coated chocolate pieces

12 chocolate kisses

Shoestring licorice

DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 350°F. Put 1 paper liner in each cup of the 12-Cup Muffin Pan.

Put the cake mix, water and egg in the Classic Batter Bowl. Mix according to the package directions. Using the Large Scoop, put 1 heaping scoop of batter into each muffin cup.

Bake the cupcakes for 15 to 18 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in the center of each cupcake comes out clean. Carefully remove the pan from the oven using Oven Mitts and put it on a Stackable Cooling Rack. Let the cupcakes cool for 5 minutes, then remove them from the pan. Let the cupcakes cool completely before you decorate them.

Spread the tops of the cupcakes with the frosting. To make each mouse, put 2 vanilla wafer cookies for "ears," 2 candy-coated chocolate pieces for "eyes," 1 chocolate kiss for a "nose," and pieces of shoestring licorice for "whiskers."
