Do you know that your career is a Primary Food?

I just finished watching Roselinde Torres’s TED Talks video in which she discusses what it takes to be a great leader in the 21st century.


Torres has over 25 years of experience just observing great leaders and studying the characteristics they possess. She’s observed Fortune 500 Companies and knows what it takes to lead an extremely successful business.

Now that you’ve watched it. You are probably wondering How leadership ties into Health? I’m so glad you asked.


Nutrition is a secondary source of energy, We call this “secondary foods” However, “Primary foods”, or nonfood sources of nourishment, are what really fuels us. The concept of primary and secondary foods is something I learned during my training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.


Lovers thrive on the pure bliss and peace they’re experiencing, while passionate entrepreneurs are fueled by their work. The excitement and rapture of daily life feeds us more completely than any food. Primary food goes beyond the plate, nurturing us on a deeper level. The four main primary foods are: relationships, physical activity, spirituality, and career.


The more primary food we give ourselves, the less we depend on secondary food. On the contrary, the more we fill ourselves with secondary food, the less space we leave for primary food – our true source of nourishment. Many religions and cultures practice fasting to reduce secondary food, opening channels to receive a greater amount of primary food.
